Aquarium Club of Maryland

Supporting the Aquarium Community

At the Aquarium Club of Maryland (ACM), we are a passionate community of hobbyists, conservationists, and educators committed to preserving endangered fish species. As a proud member of the CARES (Conservation, Awareness, Recognition, Responsibility, Encouragement, and Education, and Support and Sharing) Preservation Program, we work collaboratively with scientists and conservation organizations worldwide to protect aquatic life. Through breeding, education, and active participation in the global network, we ensure the conservation of species that are at risk of extinction. Our mission is not only to preserve these species but also to foster a community of responsible aquarists dedicated to making a positive impact on the world of aquatic conservation.

How the Rescue Started

The Aquarium Club of Maryland began with a passion to protect endangered aquatic species through action and education. Our founders created a sanctuary with breeding programs and community efforts. Today, we continue growing as a dedicated community committed to preserving aquatic life and inspiring others.

We host monthly auctions often featuring rare and valuable fish and plants. Explore the items entered into the upcoming auction today!

Our ACM Bylaws provide the foundation for how we operate as a club. They outline the roles, responsibilities, and expectations for all members, ensuring transparency, accountability, and a strong community. Review the bylaws to understand the rules and guidelines that govern our activities.

Every year PVAS plans events for its members. In past years we have visited member fishrooms and public and research aquaria, gone on aquarium shop tours, and conducted collecting trips.

Every other year, PVAS hosts the All-Aquarium Catfish Convention.

Club members receive many benefits including the right to sell fish and plants at monthly meetings, higher commissions at all-day auctions, participation in group buys, and discounts at participating local fish stores.

If you attend more than one or two meetings per year, we ask that you join the club.

The Potomac Valley Aquarium Society Foundation is a nonprofit entity that facilitates donations to causes that support the hobby such as the purchase of Peruvian rainforest to protect it, and research grants to study aquarium fish disease, prevention, and treatment.
